The following is a great description of how to connect your rig to the sound card in your computer. It was written by Dick Turske W8YYY, and can also be found on his website. Thanks alot, Dick.

Rig to Soundcard Connections

I have included the following instructions for those of you who have downloaded HamAlyzer and may need help connecting your rig and computer soundcard.

If your rig is already connect to your soundcard for using the digital modes or SSTV you should be ready to go with no further connections needed.  For those of you making the rig to soundcard connections for the first time, this is not a difficult task. A good shielded two conductor audio cable with the proper ends for your system is all that is required.

The Sound Card

Most soundcards have an 1/8" stereo jack for line and/or microphone input. Use the line input jack as your first choice. If you do not have a line input jack, the microphone input jack may also be used with some sort of attenuating usually required.  Open your "Volume Control" Here is where you can typically find yours:

Operating SystemStart Menu Location
Windows ME Start > Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Volume Control
Windows 98 Start > Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Volume Control
Windows NT Start > Programs > Accessories > multimedia > Volume Control
Windows 2000 Start > Programs > Accessories > multimedia > Volume Control

Make sure the input you are using is not Muted and the volume is adjusted correctly.

If you are using the microphone input jack on you soundcard, be sure that the "Mic Boost" is not enabled. This is found by selecting Options on the Player Control -  Properties - select Recording - OK - Advanced and uncheck the MicBoost at the bottom of the screen.

Your soundcard should now be ready to go.

Your Rig Connection

Most modern rigs have a fix audio out  jack somewhere on the back. This is usually a low level audio output that stays constant even when the AF Gain is adjusted on the front of your rig.  On the Yaesu FT1000 series this is a 1/8" stereo jack on the back of the rig. On the Icom 756Pro it is on acc(1) pin 5.  I am not familiar with other rigs, but never the less there is always some place to acquire audio from your rig that can be sent to your soundcard.  Care should be taken not to overdrive the input to you soundcard.  If necessary insert a 50k or 100k pot in the line between the rig and soundcard.  Adjust this pot from it's low setting until a signal appears on the HamAlyzer screen.

I hope these suggestions help with your connections and you are now enjoying the HamAlyzer feature. I take no responsibility for problems you may encounter with your rig or soundcard because of these instructions.

Have Fun
